Mississippi Casinos Closed Within 10 Hours of Notice16 September 2004GREENVILLE, Mississippi – As reported by the Mississippi Sun Herald: "At the last meeting of his tenure with a strong hurricane bearing down approaching, Mississippi Gaming Commission Chairman Leonard "Len Blackwell" again stressed the need for Legislature to approve land-based casinos on the Coast within strict guidelines. "Several thousand Mississippians who depend upon casinos for their livelihoods, along with state and local politicians use the millions of dollars in tax revenue for public project, kept a close watch on the storm throughout Wednesday. "…Larry Gregory, executive director of the Mississippi Gaming Commission, said 95 percent of casinos were closed within 10 hours and that everything went according to plan. As soon as the storm passing, gaming agents will begin assessing the damage and present a full report to the commission at its Oct. 20 meeting, Gregory said. |
