Mississippi Casino Results Dip

26 August 2004

JACKSON, Mississippi – As reported by the Associated Press: "Gambling dollars from Mississippi casinos fell 0.5 percent in July compared to the same month a year ago, new figures show.

"…Mississippi's gross gaming revenue for July amounted to $249.3 million, compared to $250.5 million for July 2003, a decrease of about 0.5 percent, according to the state Tax Commission.

"…The river casinos reported gross gaming revenue of $135.3 million in July compared to $136.2 million in July 2003. Along the coast, the figures were $113.9 million for July and $114.2 for the same month last year.

"The decline in revenue is due to a tough economy and a competitive market, said Andy Bourland, executive director of the Mississippi Gaming Association…"
