Mississippi casino plan proposed

BAY ST. LOUIS, Mississippi – As reported by the Mississippi Sun Herald: "A few Bay political leaders think the idea of a casino in Old Town is almost far-fetched, but everyone at least seems willing to listen.

"A local developer unwrapped plans Tuesday to build a $100 million casino at the end of Main Street in a downtown district still struggling to recover from Hurricane Katrina.

"'The reason we are trying to put this project together is to get Bay St. Louis back on its commercial feet,' Hester Plauche told the Bay City Council.

"Plauche and his Louisiana partner, Pete Vicari, told a crowd of nearly 200 locals the project would give the food-and-arts district an opportunity to rapidly return, by offering local merchants business space in the sprawling development.

"…With only a rough sketch of the plan and still dozens of details to gather, Plauche and Vicari are at the beginning of a long road of public hearings and community meetings to help win over a group of feisty Old Town merchants…"
