Mississippi Casino Plan Overcomes Hurdle

21 January 2004

MISSISSIPPI – As reported by the Mississippi Sun Herald: "For the second time in six years, the Commission on Marine Resources on Tuesday approved a permit for casino development in D'Iberville.

"The commission voted 3-1 to grant a permit for the $76.2 million Royal D'Iberville casino, which would be built west of the Interstate 110 bridge.

"…While the CMR issued a permit for the D'Iberville casino in March 1998, a group of environmentalists filed suit to block the project eight months later. In September 2000, U.S. District Judge Paul Friedman cancelled the permits for the casino and ordered an environmental impact statement.

"…Supporters of the casino noted they had made changes to the project to accommodate environmental concerns…"
