Minnesota Tribal Partnership Approved

MINNESOTA – As reported by the Minnesota Pioneer Press: "A bill to create a casino partnership among the state and two northern Minnesota Indian tribes narrowly passed a House committee Wednesday.

"The legislation, approved 6-4 with two committee members absent, now goes to the House Ways and Means Committee. That committee is chaired by Rep. Jim Knoblach, R-St. Cloud, who has said he backs a casino at Canterbury Park but opposes other casino plans.

"…Under the bill, the state lottery and the Red Lake and White Earth tribes would operate a huge 4,000-slot-machine casino in the northern suburbs.

"…Supporters argued Wednesday the casino would allow the Red Lake and White Earth tribes finally to share in riches that tribes closer to the metropolitan area have enjoyed over the past 15 years…"
