Minnesota Problem Gambling Program Under Fire

MINNESOTA – As reported by the Minnesota Star Tribune: "A Duluth-based nonprofit that provides programs to help compulsive gamblers did not adequately account for some of its state and city funding and some of its work was shoddy, a legislative audit released Friday contends.

"The Minnesota Council on Compulsive Gambling should work with the city of Duluth to resolve questions about how more than $75,000 of city money was spent, the report said. The audit also questioned how $32,000 in state grants were used.

"The council's executive director insists that all funds were properly spent and accounted for.

"The legislative audit does not suggest that any of the accounting irregularities were criminal or fraudulent. But it indicates the problems were magnified because there was no competitive bidding in many of the council's contracts…"
