Minnesota Governor Considers Gambling Bill6 May 2004MINNESOTA – As reported by the Twin Cities Pioneer Press: "Gov. Tim Pawlenty said Wednesday he would consider signing any gambling bill that reaches his desk if he doesn't reach an agreement with Minnesota Indian tribes to protect their casino monopoly. "…One bill, sponsored by Rep. Bill Haas, R-Champlin, would put the state into partnership with the Red Lake and White Earth tribes to operate a casino in the northern suburbs. "The second bill, sponsored by Rep Tom Hackbarth, R-Cedar, would allow voters this fall to decide the fate of a constitutional amendment authorizing a privately owned casino whose profits would buy stadiums for the Twins, Vikings and University of Minnesota Gophers…" |
