Minnesota City Considers Gaming Fee

MINNESOTA – As reported by the Albert Lea Tribune: "The Albert Lea City Council will hold a public hearing tonight to consider imposing a contribution of up to 10 percent of all lawful gambling proceeds collected in the city. The contribution would be imposed on all lawful gambling, including pull tabs and bingo.

"Gross profits from charitable gambling in Freeborn County average $1.2 million per year and $2.2 million net profits, according to Simonsen. An official amount for profits inside the city of Albert Lea was not available as of the city council's pre-agenda meeting Thursday, but will be available this evening, according to Simonsen.

"The council will only take action to impose a contribution tonight if a council member moves to do so after public input has been received, according to Simonsen. If council members wish to impose a fee, they are not obligated to impose a full 10 percent…"
