Mikohn to Participate in Stardust Renovation

30 March 1999

Mikohn Gaming Corp. has announced that it will provide new signage and lighting as part of the $50 million renovation and modernization project on the exterior of Boyd Gaming's Stardust Hotel & Casino on the Las Vegas Strip.

The work, expected to be completed by late spring, will include the installation of approximately 12,600 linear feet of neon lighting on the fascia of the quarter mile-long Stardust complex. Equivalent to two and a half miles of tubing if laid out end to end, this elegant new lighting format will feature a contemporary-looking coved design with horizontal banks of neon replacing the current system's thousands of criss-crossed, exposed vertical tubes. This will carry a connected load of 210,000 watts, compared to the present 600,000 watts, thereby providing the Stardust with energy savings of 390 kilowatt hours for every 60 minutes of operation.

As part of the contract, Mikohn also will renovate the Stardust's 15-story high main identification sign along with the porte cochere and various fascias throughout the property.

"This represents another signature project for our company along the Las Vegas Strip and is geared toward emphasizing the Stardust's sleek new contemporary look," said Mikohn Chairman, President and CEO David J. Thompson. "Of particular note, the advances in Mikohn's signage technology will result in the Stardust greatly reducing its energy costs without losing any of its identity or promotional impact."
