Middleboro's neighbors debate over casino plans

LAKEVILLE, Massachusetts -- As reported by the South of Boston Enterprise: "In a meeting Monday night seeking the townspeople's input on the plan to build a casino in Middleboro, residents and the selectmen disagreed over how and whether to fight the plan.

"The selectmen revealed a regional task force's eight-point 'statement of concern' about the plan that the board will present to Daniel O'Connell, the state secretary of housing and urban development on Aug. 27.

"Selectman Nancy Yeatts said the board's focus is in doing what's best for Lakeville, and opposing the casino might not be the way to do that. The task force's goal is to seek a seat at the decision-making table so the towns can protect themselves with the right mitigation. The task force has not taken a vote on the casino.
