Microsoft and Alliance Gaming Agreement Announced

Called the "Evolution Series," the new slot platform uses Microsoft operating system Windows NT. The system is referred to as "embedded software," which refers to taking a computer operating system, placing it on a computer chip, and using it to run a variety of devices, from household appliances to robots.

In Alliance's case, the embedded software will enable game designers to create video-based slot games much more rapidly, since it gives the company a commonly used operating system -- and, as a result, off-the-shelf software can be used in the development process.

The system will also provide more powerful video and audio features as well, Alliance said. Evolution was developed with the help of Microsoft consultants.

The platform is now awaiting the approval of the Nevada Gaming Control Board.

Microsoft is promoting the Alliance partnership in a current advertising campaign for Windows NT Embedded systems. The partnership was also highlighted by Microsoft Chief Executive Steve Ballmer during his keynote speech at the Windows Embedded Developers Conference, held Tuesday at the Mandalay Bay.
