Michigan Tribe's Plans Move Forward

13 May 2005

Las Vegas Sun

MICHIGAN --The U.S. Department of Interior has published in the Federal Register its approval of a land into trust proposal for a Michigan tribe's casino site.

The publication of the notice triggers a 30-day waiting period during which the public may weigh in on the casino plan.

The casino would be owned by the Match-E-Be-Nash-She-Wish Band of Pottawatomi Indians in Wayland Township, Michigan. Station Casinos Inc. bought an interest in the company that has a contract with the tribe to develop and manage the casino.

Analysts say casino opponents may sue to block the project. The tribe also must receive a casino compact with the state of Michigan before it can operate slot machines.
