Michigan tribe releases statement to critics27 March 2007MICHIGAN – As reported by the Grand Rapids Press: "The Gun Lake Band of Pottawatomi Indians on Monday called on its opponents to battle a Grand Rapids casino as vigorously as they oppose the tribe's plans for a Wayland Township gaming facility. "The tribe issued its statement after The Press reported a former casino opponent, businessman Peter Secchia, is exploring ways to locate a casino in downtown Grand Rapids, one that would be owned by a public-private partnership. "The tribe called on anti-casino groups 'to oppose the Secchia casino with the same ferocity as they've demonstrated against the Gun Lake Tribe,' the tribe's Vice Chairman John Shagonaby said in the prepared statement. "'If they do not fight the Secchia casino, they should drop the lawsuit and opposition to the compact immediately. If they do not oppose this casino, all of them are nothing more than hypocrites.'…" |
