Michigan tribe pushes for casino project

BARAGA, Michigan – As reported by the Mining Gazette: "Keweenaw Bay Indian Community President Susan LaFernier said she is hopeful that progress in the often-stalled tribal casino project in Negaunee Township could come soon.

"Although it didn't come up at Saturday's council meeting, LaFernier said afterward there's some legitimate hope for the project.

"…If, and when it is built, the motel-casino-theatre complex would replace the existing facility in Chocolay Township and reportedly provide approximately some 350 jobs.

"LaFernier said it's been difficult to see the light at the end of the tunnel as far as the decade-long project is concerned…"
