Michigan tribe gives share to community

MICHIGAN -- As reported by the Morning Sun: "Money earned from slot machines will go to build roads and water mains, support law enforcement and support schools.

"The Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Nation Wednesday sent $3.6 million to local governments and schools Wednesday in its twice-a-year distribution of a share of electronic gaming revenues.

"...The Mt. Pleasant Public Schools was the largest benefactor, receiving nearly $1.3 million from the Tribal Nation.

"...This year's spring distribution was 9.4 percent smaller than last spring's, which was nearly $4 million.

"Tribal spokesman Joe Sowmick said high gasoline prices and a mature gaming industry were to blame. He said the Soaring Eagle isn't alone in seeing a drop-off in electronic gaming revenue..."
