Michigan Tribal Chairman Responds to Casino Proposal

16 March 2005

SAULT STE. MARIE, Michigan – (PRESS RELEASE) -- In response to a news release issued today about a proposed Flint-area casino by Donald J. Williamson and Sports Resorts International, Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians Tribal Chairman Aaron Payment offered the following statement:

"The Sault Tribe thanks Mayor Williamson, the Flint City Council, and the people of Flint for their consideration of a business partnership and subsequent referendum vote that provides an opportunity for the Sault Tribe to operate an Indian Casino in their community. Though former Tribal Chairperson Bernard Bouschor attended a presentation of a proposed Indian Casino in Flint, the Sault Tribe Board of Directors has not seen any proposals and at this time is pursuing gaming opportunities in other geographic areas. They have not, however, ruled out any possibilities for future gaming sites."
