Michigan releases December 2024 iGaming figures22 January 2025(PRESS RELEASE) -- Michigan commercial and tribal operators reported a combined $264.2 million total internet gaming gross receipts and gross sports betting receipts in December. Gross receipts decreased 7.1% compared to November. Monthly Gross Receipts December iGaming gross receipts totaled $244.0 million, the highest to date. The previous high was $226.0 million recorded in November 2024. December gross sports betting receipts totaled $20.2 million, which is a decrease from the $58.3 million recorded in November. Monthly Adjusted Gross Receipts Combined total iGaming and internet sports betting adjusted gross receipts for December were $219.9 million, including $219.6 million from iGaming and $267,881 from internet sports betting — representing an iGaming increase of 8.0% and a sports betting decrease of 99.3% when compared to November 2024. Compared to December 2023 reported revenues, iGaming AGR was up by 34.5% and sports betting was down by 99.2%. Monthly Handle Total internet sports betting handle at $597.7 million was down by 8.1% from the $650.2 million handle recorded in November 2024. Monthly State Taxes/Payments The operators reported submitting $46.1 million in taxes and payments to the State of Michigan during December, of which: - iGaming taxes and fees = $45.9 million - Internet sports betting taxes and fees = $214,291 Monthly City of Detroit Taxes/Payments The three Detroit casinos reported paying the City of Detroit $11.4 million in wagering taxes and municipal services fees during December, of which: - iGaming taxes and fees = $11.4 million - Internet sports betting taxes and fees = $0 (because all three commercial operators reported negative internet sports betting adjusted gross receipts, resulting in no tax liability being due) Monthly Tribal Operators’ Payments Tribal operators reported making $5.7 million in payments to governing bodies in December. Annual Gross Receipts In 2024, Michigan commercial and tribal operators reported a combined $2.9 billion total iGaming gross receipts and gross sports betting receipts — $2.4 billion from iGaming and $460.5 million from internet sports betting — a 23.8% increase over 2023. Annual Adjusted Gross Receipts In 2024, Michigan commercial and tribal operators reported a combined $2.4 billion total iGaming adjusted gross receipts and adjusted gross sports betting receipts — $2.2 billion from iGaming and $194.4 million from internet sports betting — a 22.3% increase over 2023. Annual Handle Total handle for 2024 was $5.3 billion. Annual State Taxes/Payments The operators paid $466.1 million in taxes and payments to the State of Michigan in 2024, of which: - iGaming taxes and fees = $451.4 million - Internet sports betting taxes and fees = $14.7 million Annual City of Detroit Taxes/Payments The three Detroit casinos reported paying the City of Detroit $118.86 million in wagering taxes and municipal services fees in 2024, of which: - iGaming taxes and fees = $113.42 million - Internet sports betting taxes and fees = $5.44 million Annual Tribal Operators’ Payments Tribal operators reported making $55.3 million in payments to governing bodies in 2024. As of December 2024, a total of 15 commercial and tribal operators have been authorized to launch iGaming and/or internet sports betting. Currently, 12 commercial and tribal operators offer internet sports betting, and 15 operators offer iGaming.
