Michigan Racing Officials Push for Track

ROMULUS, Michigan – As reported by the Detroit News: "Michigan's top racing official plans to move fast on a request to build a $350 million horse-racing development near Metro Airport, according to a spokesman.

"While a date hasn't been set for Acting Racing Commissioner Christine White to approve or deny a license to Magna Entertainment, White 'fully intends to act quickly,' spokesman Dominic Perrone said.

"…Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano endorsed the project in his state of the county address last week.

"Magna Entertainment two years ago paid about $28 million for property at Vining Road and Interstate 94 to build the project. Plans include an entertainment complex, resort and sports club.

"…White is in discussions with three other companies that want a track license. Two racetrack licenses are available in Wayne County: one within the city of Detroit and one outside the city…"
