Michigan plans to expand Keno

LANSING, Michigan – As reported by the Detroit News: "Gov. Jennifer Granholm intends to expand legalized gambling by offering the state's popular Club Keno lottery game to local Elks lodges, VFW halls and private yacht clubs as part of her all-out press to scrounge the money needed to balance the budget.

"Expansion of the 3-year-old Keno game, which is played in 2,000 bars and restaurants, to private clubs is expected to net the state school aid pot about $15 million a year, said Lottery Commissioner Gary Peters.

"…Peters said the state has issued 1,000 club liquor licenses to organizations such as the Eagles, Elks, VFW and American Legion, as well as private yacht and country clubs. He anticipates about 300 of them will want to offer Keno. The expansion doesn't need legislative approval…"
