Michigan Mayor Wants End to Seniors' Casino Trips

PLYMOUTH, Michigan – As reported by the South Bend Tribune: "Mayor Gary Cook is worried that local senior citizens may be gambling away their rent money, and he wants the park department to stop providing buses for trips to area casinos.

"But trip organizers -- and some seniors -- say going to the casinos is a harmless way to have some fun.

"…He wondered aloud whether the city, in setting the trips, could be open to liability if seniors spent their monthly savings at the casinos.

"…The mayor said he thought trips to such destinations as the Potawatomi Zoo in South Bend or the South Bend Chocolate Co. are appropriate, but not the gambling destinations…"
