Michigan groups urge for new budget26 September 2007DETROIT, Michigan -- (PRESS RELEASE) -- The head of the Michigan Business and Professional Association (MBPA) and the Michigan Food and Beverage Association (MFBA) urged the Governor and the State Legislature to quickly approve a new budget to prevent small businesses and service companies from economic disaster. Edward Deeb, president of MBPA and MFBA whose organizations represent more than 20,000 members who employ 160,000 persons, said his membership sell most of the liquor in Michigan which is controlled by the state, most of the Lottery licensees who do not want an interruption in business, and whose members deliver product to retail stores. "Closing or limiting our members could cause a major disaster for Michigan and small business in our state," Deeb said. "Our government must approve a new budget immediately to provide a sense of stability and prevent literally millions of dollars worth of losses to small and medium size businesses." Deeb continued, "Our members want a fair and just compromise for our members, the state, and the citizens. We are waiting too long to get a new budget." |
