Michigan compact could be approved

LANSING, Michigan -- As reported by Michigan News: " A gaming compact Gov. Jennifer Granholm negotiated with an Allegan County Native American tribe could receive House approval as early as today.

"...The House Regulatory Reform Committee approved the compact Tuesday on a 6-0 vote, with two members abstaining. The bipartisan approval suggests it could pass easily in the full House.

"...Backers led by D.K. Sprague, chairman of the Gun Lake Tribe, said his is the only federally recognized tribe in Michigan without a state compact to run a casino. There are 17 casinos now; an 18th casino in New Buffalo opens next month..."
