Michigan Commissioner Avoids Illegal Gambling Charges18 April 2006SEBEWAING, Michigan – As reported by the Bay City Times: "Prosecutors have chosen not to charge a Huron County commissioner with a crime for allegedly frequenting what police call a mini-casino here. "Huron County Prosecutor Mark J. Gaertner also declined to charge the 72-year-old owner of the home along M-25 where Michigan State Police allege the county commissioner and others played slot machines. "'This is not a gambling den in the sense of a gambling operation in the big city,' Gaertner said. 'This was a 72-year-old man who had friends and neighbors over to play the slot machines. " 'There were no large sums of money exchanging hands, and any winnings that were made were either given back to patrons or were donated to various community charities.'…" |
