Michigan Casino Challenge Headed to Supreme Court

PETOSKEY, Michigan – As reported by the Traverse City Record Eagle: "An ongoing court battle over whether Indians behind Petoskey's Victories Casino should be able to open a second gambling operation elsewhere is not over, and may have implications for other Michigan tribes with gaming aspirations.

"The Michigan Supreme Court agreed to hear a case brought by an antigambling group questioning whether Gov. Jennifer Granholm had authority to approve a second casino site for the Little Traverse Band of Odawa Indians, a move she made in 2003.

"The case specifically addresses the Odawa Indians, but other tribes are apt to watch closely, as the group behind the lawsuit plans to question the legality of another casino in Manistee and two planned casinos downstate…"
