MGM MIRAGE Closes Marketing Offices, Cuts Jobs

6 July 2000

by David Strow

MGM MIRAGE announced the restructuring of its marketing operations Wednesday, a move the company said will save about $15 million per year.

About 40 people lost their jobs worldwide in the restructuring, said MGM MIRAGE spokesman Alan Feldman. The restructuring follows the merger of gaming giants MGM Grand Inc. and Mirage Resorts Inc. on May 31.

The company closed 12 offices worldwide, including offices in Los Angeles, New York, Dallas, Singapore, Hong Kong and Taipei. Feldman stressed, however, that all of the offices closed had been made redundant by the merger, and that MGM MIRAGE maintains an office in each city.

"There's quite a bit of savings that had nothing to do with people," Feldman said. "In many cases, not only did both companies have an office (in the same city), but in some cases they were in the same buildings. We closed offices in the 12 cities where there was a duplicate office."

The 40 layoffs represent the largest block of employee cutbacks in the wake of the Mirage-MGM merger, Feldman said.

The combined marketing department will be headed by Robert Moon, formerly president of MGM Grand's marketing subsidiary. Reporting to Moon will be Al Faccinto Jr., head of international marketing, and Joe Brunini, head of national marketing.

Faccinto previously oversaw international marketing efforts at the Bellagio and Mirage. His duties will be expanded to include international marketing efforts at the MGM Grand. Reporting to Faccinto will be Linda Chen, executive vice president of international branch operations, who previously served as an executive at Mirage International.

Brunini was formerly executive vice president of marketing and casino operations at the MGM Grand hotel-casino. He will oversee national marketing efforts for the MGM Grand, Bellagio, the Mirage, New York-New York, Treasure Island, Golden Nugget and Beau Rivage. Reporting to Brunini will be Jacquie Bailey, vice president of national branch operations. Bailey previously served as an executive in MGM Grand's national marketing department.
