MGC's public meeting in Springfield

1 August 2018

(PRESS RELEASE) -- The Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC) will hold its 249th open public meeting in Springfield on Thursday, 2 August 2018.

The public meeting will begin with a discussion about the recent expiration of racing legislation.

The public meeting agenda is mostly dedicated to opening preparations for MGM Springfield, which is scheduled for 24 August 2018. MGC staff will brief the Commission about a series of MGM opening-related topics including a detailed traffic plan and a communications outreach strategy for a new responsible gaming initiative.

Executive Director Ed Bedrosian will introduce an in-depth review and discussion about the status of requirements necessary for MGM Springfield to receive a Certificate of Operations from MGC. The gaming law (M.G.L. c. 23K ยง10(c)) and MGC regulations (205 CMR 135.00 and 205 CMR 151.00) state that the Commission may not determine that a Category 1 gaming establishment is open for business until the Commission has made a number of determinations. Upon the completion of the status review, the Commission is expected to vote on a series of matters related to the issuance of the opening certificate.

For a complete list of agenda items and anticipated votes, view the official Meeting Notification and Agenda.

A live stream will be available on the MassGaming homepage. Also, community members are invited to follow along with live meeting updates by connecting with the Commission on Twitter, @MassGamingComm.
