Mega Millions Jackpot Rises to $239 Million

UNITED STATES – (Press Release) -- When the winner of Friday's Mega Millions jackpot comes forward, he or she (or they) will get a multi-million dollar surprise. The jackpot that was estimated at $230 million was actually $239 million.

"As if $230 million wasn't exciting enough," said Virginia Lottery Executive Director Penelope W. Kyle. "Exceptionally strong sales in the hours leading up to Friday's drawing pushed the actual jackpot amount a full $9 million higher than our estimated jackpot amount."

One ticket matched all six numbers in the Friday, February 20, 2004 drawing. It was purchased at Red Apple in Stephens City, Virginia. Those winning numbers were: 01-13-20-21-30 and the Mega Ball number was 24.

Since the actual jackpot is based on Mega Millions sales, and is therefore constantly changing before the drawing, forecasters compile an estimate calculating the likely jackpot amount. When Mega Millions sales numbers were totaled today, those numbers pushed the jackpot to $239 million.

If the winner chooses to take the annuity, it would come to approximately:

$17.49 per minute

$.29 per second

Mega Millions is played in Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Texas, Virginia and Washington.

All Virginia Lottery profits, including those from Mega Millions tickets sold in the Commonwealth, go to public school education (K-12) in Virginia.
