Mega Millions Jackpot Reaches $170 Million

(PRESS RELEASE) -- A total of 1,261,571 tickets won prizes in the Friday, February 17, 2006 Mega Millions drawing, as players from coast to coast are watching the jackpot grow. Since no ticket matched all six numbers to win the estimated $145 million jackpot, the jackpot for the Tuesday, February 21, 2006 drawing grows to an estimated $170 million.

The winning numbers in Friday's drawing were: 16-25-31-43-46 and the Mega Ball number was 28.

Pari-mutuel prizes means that prize amounts vary with the number of tickets sold and the number of winning tickets in each prize category.

14 tickets came within a heartbeat of winning the jackpot. Each matched the first five numbers and only missed the Mega Ball number. Those tickets were purchased in California (2), Georgia (2), Illinois (1), Maryland (3), Michigan (1), New York (3), Texas (1) and Virginia (1).

Mega Millions is played in 12 states: California, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Texas, Virginia and Washington.

Mega Millions drawings are held Tuesdays and Fridays at 11:00 PM Eastern Time, 10:00 PM Central Time and 8:00 PM Pacific Time.
