Mega Millions Jackpot Grows to $61 Million

UNITED STATES –- (PRESS RELEASE) -- Mega Millions players coast to coast are feeling the excitement as the jackpot continues to climb. When Friday's winning numbers were drawn, they turned 481,851 tickets into Mega Millions winners. Since no ticket matched all six numbers to win the estimated $51 million jackpot, the jackpot grows to an estimated $61 million for the Tuesday, August 16, 2005 drawing.

The winning numbers in Friday's drawing were: 08-37-38-45-54 and the Mega Ball number was 21.

Three tickets came within one number of hitting the jackpot. Each matched the first five numbers and only missed the Mega Ball number. Those tickets were purchased in California (1) and New Jersey (2).

Mega Millions is played in 12 states: California, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Texas, Virginia and Washington.

Mega Millions drawings are held Tuesdays and Fridays at 11:00 PM Eastern Time, 10:00 PM Central Time and 8:00 PM Pacific Time.
