Mega Millions Adjusted to $222 Million19 February 2004UNITED STATES – (Press Release) -- With the excitement growing in anticipation of Friday's Mega Millions drawing, forecasters today revised the estimated jackpot upward to $222 million. The adjusted jackpot shows how strong Mega Millions sales have been since Tuesday night's drawing did not produce a jackpot winner. That drawing did produce more than 1.3 million winning tickets for prizes ranging from $2 to $175,000. Forecasters estimate the jackpot amount based on sales. "You can feel the excitement building," says Mega Millions Consortium President Penelope W. Kyle, who is also Executive Director of the Virginia Lottery. "Friday's Mega Millions drawing, which will be broadcast live from Times Square in New York City, will certainly be the most exciting yet." This jackpot has been building since December 30, 2003, when Mega Millions had its most recent jackpot winner. The jackpot has now rolled 14 times without a winner. The odds of winning the jackpot are approximately one in 135 million. Mega Millions' predecessor, the Big Game, made history in May of 2000 with the largest jackpot in North American history: $363 million. Mega Millions is played in Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Texas, Virginia and Washington.
