Mega Million Keeps Growing

27 June 2005

UNITED STATES –(PRESS RELEASE)-- Everything is growing in Mega Millions: the jackpot, the excitement -- even Mega Millions itself is growing. For the past three days, players all across California have been able to experience Mega Millions excitement. That excitement grew as the Friday, June 24, 2005 drawing approached, the first drawing to include players from California. And Mega Millions did not disappoint.

More than 545,000 tickets matched some numbers to win at one of Mega Millions' nine prize levels. In fact, 3 tickets came so close that they matched the first five numbers and only missed the Mega Ball number. Those tickets were sold in California, Massachusetts and New York. Each of those tickets wins $250,000, except in California, where prizes are pari-mutuel by state law.

The winning numbers were 14-43-44-50-56 and the Mega Ball was 07. Since no ticket matched all six numbers, the jackpot for the Tuesday, June 28, 2005 drawing grows to an estimated at $52 million.

With California, the most populous state in the nation, the Mega Millions game has a much larger player-base. With more players and more game play, Mega Millions jackpots are expected to grow faster and to record levels. Mega Millions knows all about record-level jackpots. In May of 2000, when Mega Millions was known as the Big Game, it set the record for the largest jackpot in North American history: $363 million.

Mega Millions is played in 12 states: California, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Texas, Virginia and Washington.

Mega Millions drawings are held Tuesdays and Fridays at 11:00 PM Eastern Time, 10:00 PM Central Time and 8:00 PM Pacific Time.
