Mega Million Jackpot Rises to $73 Million

UNITED STATES – (PRESS RELEASE) -- July is heating up and so is Mega Millions. With the nation's largest jackpot, Friday's Mega Millions drawing produced more than 525,000 winning tickets from coast to coast. Since no ticket matched all six numbers to win the estimated $63 million jackpot, the jackpot for the Tuesday, July 5, 2005 drawing grows to an estimated $73 million.

The winning numbers were 14-25-41-42-50 and the Mega Ball was 40. Here is a breakdown of the 526,438 tickets that won prizes in the Friday, July 1, 2005 drawing:

Three tickets came within just one number of hitting the jackpot. Each matched the first five numbers and only missed the Mega Ball number. Those tickets were sold in Georgia, Massachusetts and New York. Each of those tickets wins $250,000, except in California, where prizes are pari-mutuel by state law.

Mega Millions is played in 12 states: California, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Texas, Virginia and Washington.

Mega Millions drawings are held Tuesdays and Fridays at 11:00 PM Eastern Time, 10:00 PM Central Time and 8:00 PM Pacific Time.
