Mega Million Jackpot Grows to $40 Million

UNITED STATES – (PRESS RELEASE) -- Mega Millions players throughout the eleven participating states won a total of $2,345,802 million in Tuesday's drawing. There were 323,549 tickets that won prizes ranging from $2 up to $175,000. Since no ticket matched all six numbers to win the jackpot, the estimated jackpot for the Friday, December 24, 2004 drawing advances to $40 million.

The winning numbers for Tuesday, December 21, 2004 were: 07-22-27-31-38 and the Mega Ball number was 12. Four tickets came close to winning the jackpot in Tuesday's drawing. They matched the first five numbers and only missed the Mega Ball number to each win $175,000. The tickets were sold in Georgia (1), Illinois (1), Michigan (1), and Texas (1). There were also 29 tickets that matched 4 numbers plus the Mega Ball number to each win $5,000.

Mega Millions is played in Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Texas, Virginia, and Washington. Mega Millions drawings are held Tuesdays and Fridays at 11:00 PM Eastern Time, 10:00 PM Central Time, and 8:00 PM Pacific Time.
