Mecca Bingo, Rank Group break record for largest game of office bingo13 September 2017(PRESS RELEASE) -- Two hundred and thirty-five colleagues working for Mecca Bingo and the Rank Group came together to smash the world record for the largest game of office bingo. The successful attempt, which took place on Tuesday, 12 September at the business' Maidenhead HQ, saw colleagues from across the Rank Group come together with their dabbers at the ready for a quickfire game of bingo. As well as setting a new record, all those who took part are also made a donation to Mecca Bingo's charity partner, Carers Trust, to help support the U.K.'s seven million carers. In total, over £400 was raised for the charity. The previous record for the largest game of bingo in an office stood at 97 and was set by a team of TaskUs employees based in the Philippines in 2012. No specific U.K. record exists for the largest game of bingo in an office, so Mecca Bingo and the Rank Group are now the British and, indeed, the world record holders of this title. In total, the business managed to secure another 138 players for its record-breaking game. The attempt was led by Paul Heath, an experienced bingo caller who has worked at Mecca Bingo for 28 years and called tens of thousands of bingo games in his career. Caroline Webb, spokesperson for Mecca Bingo, said, "We had great fun coming together as a business to smash this world record, which only seems appropriate for us as one of the country's leading bingo companies. "Not only was this an opportunity to put our own bingo skills to the test, but it was also a great way for us to help raise further funds and awareness to support the fantastic work that carers across the U.K. do." The partnership between Carers Trust and Mecca Bingo first began in February 2014. Since then, its team members continue to work hard to raise as much money as possible by undertaking various charity initiatives and fundraising activities in the local area. Gail Scott-Spicer, CEO of Carers Trust, added, "We were delighted to hear about the Mecca Bingo and Rank Group teams fundraising success in the name of Carers Trust. "The money raised by team combined with the amazing amounts money raised throughout the year will help Carers Trust to support thousands of unpaid carers through a grants fund, to give carers the equipment and skills they need to carry out their caring roles, while also ensuring that their own health and well-being are looked after." |
