McCarran Passenger Count Approaches March Record

17 June 2005

Las Vegas Sun

LAS VEGAS -- McCarran International Airport reported 3.9 million passengers in May, a 9 percent increase from the same month last year.

May's count of arriving and departing passengers fell slightly short of the total for March, the airport's busiest month for passengers on record, the Clark County Department of Aviation reported.

So far this year, the airport traffic is up 7 percent to 18 million visitors.

Southwest Airlines reported 1.2 million passengers in May, an 8 percent increase from a year ago. The airport's No. 1 carrier, Southwest's passenger traffic is up 7 percent to 5.6 million people so far this year.

America West was No. 2 with 683,029 passengers, up 16 percent from last year. United Airlines rose 2 percent to 299,364 passengers.

Fourth place carrier Delta was down less than one percent to 229,407 people, though year to date traffic is up 5 percent.

In fifth place, American Airlines rose 6 percent to 232,734 passengers but is slightly off last year's year-to-date total.
