Mayor welcomes tribal casino

AUBURN, New York -- As reported by the Syracuse Post-Standard: "Auburn Mayor Timothy Lattimore said Wednesday he'd welcome the Cayuga Indian Nation to build a casino in his city, while a state official said a site somewhere in Central New York could be in the running.

"They were reacting to news that the Cayugas have struck a proposed settlement to their land-trust dispute that would let them launch a Las Vegas-style casino at a site to be determined.

"...As part of the deal, the state would receive about $120 million a year from casino revenues and Cayuga and Seneca counties would reap up to $15.3 million a year in gambling money.

"The Cayugas would also limit the amount of land they would take off the tax rolls to 10,000 acres total in both counties, and Congress would take action to ban the Seneca-Cayuga Tribe of Oklahoma from opening a casino in the state, under the agreement..."
