Massachussetts tribe looks at possible casino locations

MASSACHUSETTS – As reported by the Boston Herald: "The Mashpee Wampanoags are on the hunt for land that could be used for a casino as the debate over gambling heats up once again on Beacon Hill, sources familiar with the tribe's search said.

"With Gov. Deval Patrick preparing to roll out a panel to study whether to open the Bay State to expanded gambling, the Cape Cod tribe is kicking the tires on sites in southeastern Massachusetts, sources said.

" The real estate moves come as the tribe prepares to receive final federal recognition in July - and a new status as a 'sovereign nation' that could eventually allow it to open a Bay State casino.

"…Exactly where the Mashpee Wampanoags will buy land remains to be seen, but the tribal leaders have said they will stick with communities that are interested in hosting a casino…"
