Massachusetts tribe invited to talks28 February 2007MASSACHUSETTS – As reported by the Boston Herald: "Gov. Deval Patrick may still be mulling the merits of opening the Bay State to casino gambling. "But some local executives are already pushing plans for a Massachusetts casino- this time just a half-hour drive from Boston. "Chris Carney, whose family owns the Raynham-Taunton dog track near Brockton, is extending a very public invitation to the newly recognized Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe. "… Scott Ferson, a spokesman for the tribe, said it was too early to talk about specific locations, with an 'infinite' number of land deals for the tribe to look at. But he was not rushing either to throw cold water on Carney's overture. "…Lobbyists and lawyers with ties to both camps, including a former Brockton mayor, are working feverishly to foster a deal between the Mashpees and the dog track, insiders say…" |
