Massachusetts Gaming Commission hands MGM Springfield a $45,000 fine23 May 2023(PRESS RELEASE) -- The Investigations and Enforcement Bureau (IEB) of the Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC) has assessed and MGM Springfield has agreed to a $45,000 civil administrative penalty as a result of multiple incidents resulting in persons under the age of 21 having access to the gaming floor and gaming. The incidents took place from June through December 2022 at MGM Springfield. MGM Springfield has self-reported many of the incidents and has been responsive and cooperative with the IEB. MGM Springfield has put a number of remedial steps in place to prevent future instances including enhanced training, additional railings separating the gaming floor, and plans to install an additional security podium for the gaming area. The gaming law and regulations of the MGC place a high priority on the protection of underaged individuals within the casino environment, and thus the IEB has assessed this civil administrative penalty. “We appreciate that MGM Springfield self-reported many of these instances and their ongoing cooperation to put enhanced practices into place to prevent similar incidents in the future,” said Senior Enforcement Counsel Kathleen Kramer. “The IEB will continue to monitor MGM Springfield’s compliance with the gaming laws and regulations and the remedial steps they have undertaken.” |
