Massachusetts extends casino closures until 7 April

26 March 2020

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission announced during a remote meeting on Wednesday that the five-member commission voted unanimously to extend the mandatory shutdown of Encore Boston Harbor, MGM Springfield and Plainridge Park Casino until 12 p.m. EDT on 7 April 2020.

"The Commission will continue to review and assess the public health condition in cooperation with appropriate authorities and the gaming licensees and make a determination as to the status of operations in advance of April 7, 2020,” the MGC said.

On 14 March, the commission announced the temporary closure of the state's three gaming facilities until at least 29 March as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak.

“The health and safety of our employees, their families, and the community is our number one concern. As COVID-19 continues to place unprecedented demand on the region, MGM Springfield will remain engaged with the local community to support frontline workers, organizations and residents most impacted.” said Chris Kelley, President of MGM Springfield, in a statement.
