Massachusetts casino bill rejected20 March 2008BOSTON, Massachusetts -- As reported by the Republican: "A legislative committee voted yesterday to recommend lawmakers reject Gov. Deval L. Patrick's bill to legalize casino gambling, setting the stage for killing the bill. "Patrick conceded the bill appears headed for defeat when it is taken up today by the full state House of Representatives. "The Joint Committee on Economic Development and Emerging Technologies voted 10-8, with one abstention, to send the bill to the House floor with a recommendation that it should not pass. "During a press conference in his office, Patrick said he was disappointed but not surprised..." |
