Massachusetts auditor bets on gambling expansion

5 June 2007

MASSACHUSETTS -- As reported by the Boston GLobe: "The Bay State may be destined to become the gambling state, state auditor Joseph DeNucci predicted yesterday, calling expanded gambling, including casinos, "inevitable."

"DeNucci said he foresees a full-scale casino in Massachusetts in the next three to five years and said he believes the state should move ahead immediately with putting slot machines at local racetracks.

"...Without slot machines, the racing industry will not be able to survive, he said.

"...Meanwhile, DeNucci said he also sees political momentum building behind proposals for a full-scale casino.

"...The upsurge in interest comes as the newly recognized Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe pursues plans to build a casino of its own in Southeastern Massachusetts..."
