Mashantucket Pequot Chairman Re-elected

MASHANTUCKET, Connecticut – As reported by the Connecticut Newsday: "The Mashantucket Pequot tribe, which runs Foxwoods Resort Casino, re-elected Michael Thomas as chairman and rejected candidates who called for reform on Sunday.

"Tribal members elected Thomas, Charlene Jones and newcomer Rodney Butler to the seven-member tribal council, The Hartford Courant reported in Monday's editions. Three seats were up grabs.

"Thomas received 151 votes, Jones received 150 and Butler received 99. The new council later elected Thomas to a three-year term as tribal chairman.

"…A total of 292 tribal members voted during the tribe's annual meeting. Three hundred and fifty were eligible to cast ballots. There are about 700 members of the tribe, which owns Foxwoods, one of the largest casinos in the United States."
