Maryland's changes could affect Pennsylvania racing1 December 2008PENNSYLVANIA AND MARYLAND -- As reported by Penn Live: "Pennsylvania horse tracks might be benefiting from Maryland's inability to attract top-notch horses, but that could change in the next year or two. "Maryland voters have given approval to the creation of five slots gambling casinos, which could boost that state's struggling horse-racing industry. "...for the last few years, Maryland's two racetracks -- Pimlico and Laurel -- have watched helplessly as horse-owners left the state for the lure of larger purses in neighboring states, such as Pennsylvania, that have legalized slot machines. "...But those in Pennsylvania's horse racing industry don't necessarily see the prospect of new competition from Maryland as a bad thing..."
