Maryland track to invest $25 million for slot upgrade5 February 2009ANNAPOLIS, Maryland -- As reported by The Daily Times: "A bid by the parent company of Ocean Downs to install slots at the racetrack was the only application for the Worcester County video lottery license received by Maryland officials by the Monday deadline. "In the proposal, track owner William Rickman and his company, Ocean Enterprises LLC, outlined a plan to install 800 slot machines at the facility on Route 589, with the option of increasing that number to 1,500, said Buddy Roogow, director of the Maryland Lottery Agency. "With that amount of video lottery terminals, Ocean Downs will have to invest $25,150,000 in construction and improvements to upgrade the facility. The law supporting the referendum that voters broadly approved last November requires slots developers to fund infrastructure improvements proportionate to the number of machines they own.
