Maryland Live! casino generates over $67 Million in local impact grants in its first three years24 July 2015BALTIMORE, Maryland -- (PRESS RELEASE) -- Since opening on June 6, 2012, revenue from The Cordish Companies' Maryland Live! Casino has generated over $67 million in local impact grants to benefit numerous neighborhood civic organizations in Anne Arundel County. The grants, which are derived from Maryland Live! Casino gaming tax, are awarded through recommendations from the Anne Arundel County Local Development Council (LDC), which helps to manage the allocation of county gaming tax revenue to local organizations. In just three years, the LDC has awarded over $67 million in grants towards county operational and capital programs, including over a million dollars in community grants. "We are so proud to see funds of over $67 million generated from Maryland Live! Casino in just three years going to support and enhance worthwhile projects and communities in our area." This week, The Cordish Companies and Anne Arundel County awarded $16 million in local impact grants for fiscal year 2016 as follows: The $16 Million in Local Impact Grant Recipients for Fiscal Year 2016 include: Anne Arundel County Fire Department $6,898,000 Anne Arundel County Police Department $3,222,000 Anne Arundel Community College $1,700,000 Anne Arundel County Office of Public Works / Department of Planning & Zoning $1,500,000 Anne Arundel County Recreation & Parks $800,000 Meade High School Boosters Club $720,000 Anne Arundel County Public Library $500,000 Community Grants (outlined below) $250,000 Beautification/Trash Removal $200,000 BWI Partnership $150,000 Reserves $60,000 Recipients of $250,000 in community support grants include the following: Assistance League of Chesapeake $16,000 for uniforms/books for Title I students Baltimore Area Boy Scouts $5,000 for a free District Pinewood Derby & Lunch at Arundel Mills Chesapeake Arts Center $10,000 for free art classes and bus transportation for local students Christian Assistance Program $24,000 towards fresh food for food pantry clients Hands of Hope $14,314 towards strengthening at-risk families/substance abuse prevention Meade High School PTSA $39,996 for Collaborative Learning Center technology National Electronics Museum $25,000 towards field trips for 334 4th graders Quail Run South III Condo Assoc. $40,000 for fence replacement Severn Crest Homeowners Assoc. $35,690 towards park benches, trash receptacles, trees/landscaping Villages of Dorchester Homeowners $40,000 for tree replacement "I'm thrilled to see organizations in our area getting the financial support they need," said Anne Arundel County Executive Steve Schuh. "The LDC members are very excited about several of the projects to be funded this year, including new vehicles for the Arundel Mills-based police force that allow them to better see across lanes in the parking lots, as well as new technology investments, such as license plate readers and communication boards, to assist in the prevention of crime," said Claire Louder, LDC Chairman. "In addition, we have the opportunity to improve the athletic fields at Meade High School, adding restrooms adjacent to the field in place of the current porta-potties and lighting for the walkway from the field to the parking lot." The Local Development Council was established in Anne Arundel County after the opening of The Cordish Companies' Maryland Live! Casino on June 6, 2012. The LDC consists of 15 members appointed by the County Executive to serve and advise the County on recommendations for the distribution and expenditure of revenues raised at Maryland Live! Casino through local impact grants. Community based organizations and nonprofit groups located generally within a three mile radius of Maryland Live! Casino are eligible to apply for a local impact grant. |
