Maryland County Council to Debate Slots

MARYLAND – As reported by the Washington Post: "The Montgomery County Council will wade into the statewide debate over slots in time for the next session of the Maryland General Assembly, according to County Council President Steven A. Silverman.

"Silverman (D-At Large) lashed out Wednesday at the range of proposals by state leaders from both parties that would attempt to balance the budget by legalizing, and then taxing, slot machine gambling.

"…Silverman said the County Council would introduce a resolution condemning slots at its Jan. 13 meeting. If the resolution passes, it will put the council on the same footing as Montgomery County Executive Douglas M. Duncan (D), who also has opposed Ehrlich's plans to expand legalized gaming in Maryland…"
