Manitoba Tribes Wants Control Over Casino

MANITOBA – As reported by the Winnipeg Sun: "The owners of Manitoba's only First Nations-run casino say they're having trouble making ends meet and are demanding the province turn over management of the gambling facility. But Gaming Control Minister Tim Sale says that won't happen anytime soon.

"The Aseneskak Casino Limited Partnership wants to be able to market and manage its casino in The Pas without interference from the province.

"That would allow it to purchase its own gaming equipment and supplies, among other things.

"…Sale said the province is working to establish a First Nations Gaming Authority to oversee gambling on all First Nations, not only the casino in The Pas.

"…The gaming minister said under the Criminal Code, the province would still have to oversee gambling at the casino…"
