Manitoba Tribal Casino Seeks More Autonomy

THE PAS, Manitoba – As reported by the Winnipeg Broadcast News: "The head of Manitoba's only aboriginal-run casino says he is more determined than ever to gain greater autonomy.

"The Opaskwayak Cree Nation's Aseneskak Casino in The Pas reported Wednesday an operating profit of about $400,000 for the fiscal year ended March 31st.

"…[Chief executive Philip Dorion] says he is now going to push harder than ever to break free of an agreement with the province in which the government oversees all gaming at the casino…"
