Manitoba Smoking Expected to Drain Lottery Revenues

MANITOBA – As reported by the Canadian Press: "A provincewide smoking ban to be implemented later this year is expected to drain at least $50 million a year from Manitoba government lottery revenues.

"…Lotteries Minister Scott Smith says the revenue loss forecast is based on data on the impact on video lottery terminals of the first four months of Winnipeg's municipal smoking ban.

"The machines are located in hotels and bars across Manitoba and at the two government-owned casinos in Winnipeg…"
